Susan Holland Porter was born in Oklahoma to Hans J. and Charlene Coleman Holland. After her birth, her family moved to Painted Post, New York where she and her siblings attended school and were often the only members present. While studying at Brigham Young University, Susan met Bruce D. Porter in a religion class and later married him in the Washington D.C. Temple.
Sister Porter graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and helped raise her four children while moving from Massachusetts, Virginia, Germany, and Utah. Elder Porter was called as a member of the Seventy in 1995 and moved their family to serve in the Middle East/North Africa Area and the Europe East Area of the Church. In December of 2016, Elder Porter passed away after a long battle with kidney failure.
Sister Porter was sustained as the Primary General President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 2, 2022. Since her call, President Porter has urged children to be true to the baptismal covenants they have made and to take part in the work of salvation. She is deeply concerned with the welfare, both spiritual and physical, of the children in the world, and works to help them live up to their divine potential.
