Steven J. Hafen was appointed as administration vice president and chief financial officer at Brigham Young University on August 1, 2020. Overseeing critical divisions including Financial Services, Physical Facilities, Human Resources, Purchasing and Travel, Auxiliaries and Programs, and BYU Police and BYU Security, Hafen plays a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the university. Additionally, he chairs BYU’s Campus Planning and Use Committee, University Investment Committee, and Human Resources Committee.
Hafen’s career prior to joining BYU spanned multiple industries, in which he advanced to several CEO and COO roles. Notably, as the CEO of Devcon Security Holdings, Hafen successfully led the company through a transaction process for Golden Gate Capital.
Hafen has contributed to the academic sphere as an adjunct faculty member at the BYU Marriott School of Business for over thirteen years. He holds a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in international relations with a minor in Japanese, both earned at BYU. His expertise encompasses business development, marketing, project management, human resources, and facility management.
