Scott Ellis Ferrin is a professor and graduate coordinator in the Department of Educational Leadership and Foundations, as well as an adjunct professor of law and an affiliated scholar of the Wheatley Institution at BYU. He received his BA and JD from BYU and his MEd and EdD from Harvard University. He teaches and researches on education law and related constitutional issues, is a member of the Arizona and Utah bars, is the law school faculty advisor to the BYU Education and Law Journal, and has been a due process hearing officer on special education issues for the state of Utah.
The founding chair of the Utah Education Law and Policy Institute, he serves on several national academic association committees, several boards of editors, and as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals.
Professor Ferrin is a pilot and avid horseman. He has been a volunteer instructor in equine therapy and believes in the healing influence for troubled youth, for court diversion youth, and for children with physical and other disabilities. He has been the executive assistant to two presidents and an interim president at Bryant University in Rhode Island before coming to BYU in 1997.
Currently serving as president of the Provo Utah Bonneville Stake, Brother Ferrin is an avid Scouter and volunteers teaching gifted and talented enrichment kindergarten sessions at Provost Elementary. He and his wife, Davilyn Dalton Ferrin, are the parents of two children.
