Peggy S. Worthen was born Peggy Sealey in Price, Utah, where she grew up. She remembers going on “adventures” often to explore Utah’s outdoors with her family, and is grateful for patient parents who made every effort to be close to their children. She would later become just such an involved, patient, and loving parent herself.
Peggy Sealey attended the College of Eastern Utah. There, at a church dance, she met a man named Kevin J Worthen, whom she had grown up near but had never gotten to know. They began dating, fell in love, were married, and had three children together. Sister Worthen then spent many years working to support their family while her husband went to school and began his career. One of the jobs she held was as a receptionist for Utah Senator Jake Garn. She later returned to school, graduating from Brigham Young University with a degree in English in 2003—the same year the Worthens’ oldest son graduated from high school. Education continues to be important to her as she has continued to take courses since her graduation, including two years of Norwegian.
Having a tremendous testimony of the importance of family, Peggy S. Worthen has supported her husband through a rigorous career in law, teaching, and academic administration. In 2014, he became the president of Brigham Young University, and she frequently speaks with him, adding her insights and personality to the richness of BYU. She frequently shares personal, down-to-earth stories to which others can relate.
Sister Peggy S. Worthen is a devoted mother and a proud grandmother. She enjoys reading and hiking, but most of all, she enjoys time with her family. Her example of loving leadership and her powerful faith in Jesus Christ have been a strength to her family, friends, and all who listen to her speeches.
