Patti Freeman joined the BYU faculty in 1999 in the Recreation Management and Youth Leadership (RMYL) Department. She earned her BS from BYU in RMYL, her MS in recreation administration from Western Illinois University, and her PhD in human performance from Indiana University.
Dr. Freeman has served as the RMYL department chair since 2006 and has directed study abroad programs to New Zealand, Australia, and Fiji. She served six years as an associate editor for Schole: A Journal of Leisure Studies and Recreation Education and since 2005 as an associate editor for Leisure Sciences. She has served as an invited reviewer for The Journal of Leisure Research as well as for several others. She is also an accreditation team visitor for the Council on Accreditation for Parks, Recreation, and Tourism.
In concert with her many publications, she has made numerous presentations at state, regional, and national conferences. She is a member of the Society of Park and Recreation Educators, the National Recreation and Park Association, and the Utah Recreation and Park Association.
Dr. Freeman and her husband, Eric Andersen, live in Wallsburg with their twin boys Caleb and Hayden, and two additional sons, Solomon and Maxwell.
