Mark L. Grover

Dr. Mark L. Grover is a native of Malad, Idaho. He earned a BA in history and a master of library and information science degree from BYU. He also holds MA and PhD degrees from Indiana University in Latin American and African history.
Dr. Grover joined BYU’s library fac­ulty in 1973. For most of his tenure he was a subject specialist with responsibility for building and refer­encing the Latin American and African collections. He served as chair of BYU’s Latin American Studies Department from 1990 to 1993. His research and publication focused on libraries and the academic pro­duction of ideas of Latin America, Spain, and Portugal.
His research resulted in his being named the first project director for the Latin American Studies Research Resources Project of the Association of Research Libraries from 1994 to 1996. From 1996 to 1997 he served as president of the Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin American Library Materials, which is an international organization for Latin American librarians.
In 2009, Brother Grover received the Mormon History Association’s Geraldine McBride Woodward Award for Best Publication in International Mormon History for his book A Land of Promise and Prophecy: Elder A. Theodore Tuttle in South America, 1960–1965.
Brother Grover is married to the late Deborah Reyna.
