Loreen Allphin is a plant ecologist, a conservation biologist, and the associate dean of Life Sciences at BYU. She completed both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at BYU and received her doctorate in biology from the University of Utah in 1996. She has worked as a faculty member at BYU since then. She teaches undergraduate courses in conservation biology, genetics and reproduction in natural populations, ecology, and medicinal botany. In addition, she teaches a graduate course in quantitative ecology.
Allphin has received various awards and honors for her work, such as the RSEC Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award, the Fellow Award from the Society for Range Management, the Distinguished Service Award from the BYU College of Life Sciences, and the Citizenship Award from the Faculty Women’s Association. She is a reviewer for Rangeland Ecology and Management and a committee and council member for the Society for Range Management.
She has six children and four grandchildren together with her husband, Steve Flinders.
