Dr. Jennifer B. Nielson earned her BS from BYU and then a master’s and a PhD in chemistry from the University of California, San Diego, in 1997. She is a teaching professor in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department and has taught to date more than 10,000 students at BYU.
She has published research on physical organic chemistry in the Journal of the American Chemical Society and the Annual Review of Physical Chemistry. Her current research interests are in science literacy and chemical education in Uganda.
Dr. Nielson serves on the Society Committee on Education for the American Chemical Society and on a task force for International Chemistry Education. She is also a member of the council for the local central Utah section of the American Chemical Society.
She loves serving with the Young Women organization in her ward and stake. She served a mis-sion in Recife, Brazil, and speaks Portuguese and German (and O-Chem!). She is married to Daniel Nielson, a professor in the Political Science Department, and they have three children.
