Jan E. Newman, born on April 16, 1960, in Jerome, Idaho, was called as the second counselor in the Sunday School General Presidency in 2019. Raised in Overton, Nevada, he developed a strong testimony at a young age, serving a full-time mission in France and Belgium. Newman then married Lucia Price in the Oakland California Temple on August 18, 1984, and together they are the parents of six children.
He attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in French. Newman originally planned to become a French teacher, but he instead opted to join the software industry, becoming a successful serial entrepreneur for over thirty years. He is currently a partner at SageCreek Partners, a technology consulting company in Lehi, Utah.
Newman has dedicated much of his life to service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His various roles have included stake president, bishop, ward Young Men president, Scoutmaster, and temple worker. From 2006 to 2009, he and his wife served as mission leaders of the Nebraska Omaha Mission. He continues to serve others with his leadership skills and spiritual insights through his calling in the Sunday School General Presidency.
