Douglas M. Chabries was a professor of electrical and computer engineering. Born in Los Angeles, California, he served a mission to Uruguay. He earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Utah, a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology, and a doctorate from Brown University.
Prior to joining the BYU faculty in 1978, Dr. Chabries directed research groups at the Naval Undersea Center in Point Loma San Diego. He is the recipient of the Governor’s Science Medal, the BYU-sponsored Research Achievement Award, the BYU Blue Key Faculty Award, and the College of Engineering and Technology Outstanding Faculty Award. He has served on numerous university committees and most recently as dean of the Fulton College of Engineering and Technology.
Brother Chabries has served the Church as bishop, bishopric counselor, high priest group leader, high councilor, and stake presidency counselor.
Dr. Chabries is married to Ada Smith Chabries.
