David Dearden received his BS degree from BYU and his PhD from the California Institute of Technology. After postdoctoral study at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, he joined the faculty of the University of Texas at Arlington, where he won a National Science Foundation Young Investigator award.
He came to BYU in 1994, where he is currently a professor of chemistry. Professor Dearden’s research interests include gas phase ion chemistry and the use of Fourier transform mass spectrometry to characterize prototypical molecular machines.
Professor Dearden’s is married to Denise Greenwood. They are the parents of three children. Professor Dearden served in the Japan Okayama Mission and has been privileged to serve in many other capacities since, including Bishop of a BYU ward.
