Dr. Claudia J. Clayton grew up in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Salt Lake County. She earned her bachelor’s degree in physics from BYU, her doctoral degree in anatomy with emphases in neuroscience and pharmacology from the University of Utah, and a PhD in clinical psychology from BYU.
Prior to joining the BYU faculty in 1991, professor Clayton served on the faculty of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (Departments of Neurology and Anatomy) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Department of Psychiatry).
Professor Clayton was honored with the student award for excellence in teaching from BYU’s Psychology Department in 1995. Her past scholarly interests have included neuroendocrinology and the psychopharmacology of alcohol and methylphenidate. She is currently researching peacemaking and violence in children, working with Dr. Bonnie Ballif-Spanvill, director of the Women’s Research Institute at BYU. She is also investigating effective teaching methods.
