Amy Tanner is an associate teaching professor and the undergraduate coordinator for Brigham Young University’s Department of Mathematics Education. She specializes in designing curriculum for mathematics courses and mentoring future elementary school teachers. She and her husband are the parents of two children.
Professor Tanner received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics education from BYU and her doctorate degree in educational studies from the University of Michigan. Before joining the BYU faculty, she worked for the University of Michigan as a graduate student instructor and research assistant and at the Washtenaw Community College and as a part-time mathematics instructor.
In her BYU devotional, Professor Tanner spoke of the vital role that uncertainty plays in our lives, stating that “uncertainty can be every bit as much a gift as knowledge.” Her testimony that God is always involved in the decisions we make is powerful and moving.
